Halmăşd commune is located in the southwestern part of Sălaj County, at a distance of 22 km from Simleu Silvaniei town and 48 km from Zalău municipality. The relief of the commune is hilly, being furrowed by the rivers that cross the commune. The hydrographic network is made up of four major watercourses that cross also the villages of the commune: Valea Mare, Valea Drighiu, Valea Cerişei, Valea Tunii, these being also the main tributaries of Barcău River from the territory of the commune.

Halmăşd commune is composed of five villages: Halmăşd - the village of residence, Aleuş, Cerişa, Drighiu and Fufez.
The neighbors of Halmăşd commune are: to the North - the communes Marca and Ip, to the Nort-East - Nusfalău commune, to the South and South-East - Plopiş commune, to the South and South-West - Bihor County. The villages of the commune are ancient villages, documentary attested as early as the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, except Fufez village, which is a locality relatively newer.


Halmăsd village appears for the first time in the documents of the time in 1341 under the name of Halmăs, the other villages of the commune being documentary attested as follows:
• Aleus: 709 - Elye
• Cerisa: 1477 - Cserese
• Drighiu: 1216 - villa Detrelu
• and Fufez locality dates back to 1956 - Fufez.
In the course of time are mentioned in various documents the existence of some important buildings, as follows:
• Halmăsd: The stone church in 1802, the school made of stone built in 1872
• Aleus: The wooden church, built in 1722
• Ceris: The wooden church, built in 1834
• Drighiu: The wooden church from 1794




The main touristic attraction of the commune is the west area. Through the diversified relief, is desired a capitalization of the natural, material and human resources, historical and intercultural traditions, for the sustainable development of the tourism. It is also desired the enhancement of the touristic potential of the commune from the area of Valea Morilor, Valea Cerişa and Fufez village.

Halmăsd commune presents a touristic potential, represented by gastronomic traditions and folk traditions which take special forms, artistic and cultural manifestations. Unfortunately, due to the lack of funds for rehabilitation, the touristic attractions have partially degraded. The commune's geographical position favors the development of tourism, by the diversity of the landscape (hills, mountains, valleys).
